Single-phase asynchronous motors are a type of motor widely used in household and light industrial equipment. Unlike three-phase asynchronous motors, single-phase asynchronous motors use only single-phase AC power. Its main components include stator, rotor, and starting device. The stator is wound with a single-phase winding. When the single-phase AC power is turned on, the stator generates an alternating magnetic field, but this magnetic field itself cannot start the rotor and requires an additional starting mechanism.

In order to achieve starting, single-phase asynchronous motors are usually equipped with starting windings or starting capacitors. The starting winding is staggered in space with the main winding and connected through the starting capacitor, which provides a phase difference at start-up, thereby generating a rotating magnetic field to enable the rotor to start. Once the motor reaches a certain speed, the starting winding or capacitor will be disconnected by a centrifugal switch or an electronic switch, leaving only the main winding to work.

Single-phase asynchronous motors have the advantages of simple structure, low cost, and easy use. They are suitable for occasions with low power and light load, such as household appliances, small pumps, and small mechanical equipment. However, compared with three-phase asynchronous motors, single-phase asynchronous motors have lower efficiency and power factor, higher vibration and noise during operation, and lower starting torque.

Single-phase asynchronous motors are still the preferred power source for many household and light industrial equipment due to their ease of use and economy. With the continuous advancement of technology, the performance and reliability of modern single-phase asynchronous motors have also been further improved to meet a wider range of application needs.
